Fishing Derby

It took Kendra some time to even get a bite this year. Kids all around her were reeling them in right & left from this VERY stocked little irrigation ditch. But this family of ducks kept us entertained for a while.

She started to get a little sad, then a lot sad after a little over an hour with only a few bites. That is SO long for a 4 year old. (especially after last years almost instant success) She finally said "I think I am not going to win like everyone else." Mark said that made him so sad he that he wanted to jump in the water & grab one of the fifty fish he could see with his eyes & hand her one.
But eventually she did & reeled it right in like a pro! When the volunteer unhooked it & asked her if she wanted to hold it, she said "yes". Mark said the volunteer looked twice at her & said "really?" Well she did. She just stood there SO proud of herself with a big fat grin on her face.

Then she put the fish in her bag, and instead of wiping the "fish slime" off on the grass or even her pants ... Yes, she drug it all through her HAIR!! How nice! She kept doing this every time she touched a fish. Made me wish we had left her soccer braids in!
She caught her limit of 2 and kept saying "I caught 2. One is bigger than the other."

After showing everyone she made very sure to reminded us that you weigh your fish before you clean it. One was 7 oz the other was 10 oz. Last year was much bigger but this year tasted better!

Cook Kendra added grapes to hers. Although that would not have been my first pick for flavoring trout, it did actually make it taste pretty good!

We had a surf & turf night. It tasted great! We wished we had more fish but supplemented with some steak! The boys loved it & Kendra was fascinated with the bones.
