San Diego Day 2

Mark was still at his conference so Katy and the kids put on our good walking shoes, braved the free ways and made a full day of the HUGE zoo!

The requests were Peacocks, Flamingos, Tigers, Hippos and Baby Cambie! The new Koala cub that we had been watching and helped name via a pole on Face Book.

We bought our tickets and walk in, to find right in front of us...the Flamingos! Peacocks were walking free all around us, just out in the open. One fanned himself wide open as if he was greeting us. Those birds are LOUD!! One "crowed" right behind us and made us all jump! Kendra tried to walk up to one, I was nervous. I didn't know if it would try to peck her or something.

We had a map of the park but Travis was in charge of it! I let the kids lead, and we spent way too much time getting stuck in large bird cages. By the time we made it around to the large animals it was hot and they were tired...the kids and the animals.

Hippos

They were HUGE!  These pictures just don't show that very well. It was a little un-nerving.

As we were leaving the lions, Kendra says "Phew! Good thing they didn't put the gazelle's by the lions!"

The Koalas

This was the crown jewel! It was really neat how they were set up.  Not behind glass or in cages, you could almost reach out an touch them.  We could totally smell the eucalyptus leaves.  We looked hard for Cambie, but he was in a far off corner with his Momma.

The tigers were VERY hard to see! We found out that 2 cubs were born 2 days after we were there.  We saw pandas, a rino, polor bears, and lots of monkeys. The kids ran up and down the glass with some chimps for a while, totally interactive. We had a wonderful time! We LOVE the zoo!
